Free Texture Tuesday: Old Film
The other day I released a set of 11 Old and Grungy Film Textures on Lost and Taken that were accepted quite well, so I thought I’d do an encore release here on Bittbox. Just like the previous post, these textures were created using public domain images that were taken in the mid 19th century using the Daguerreotype method. I simply removed the subject matter from the images in Photoshop to leave only the textures of the old film. Hope you like ‘em!

Great, as always. These things always inspire, so if you could give away some free TIME next week I’ll be able to do something about it! ;-)

wow, i love these, thanks so much, personally i would love to see a tut on these, just in general how to get rid of a subject, i see so many cool textures and little ordaments around the web and all i can think is if that picture wasnt in the way that would be a great resource, now maybe this is incredibly simple, and im revealing myself to be a nube here, but I’d love to know in any case, thanks =)

i admire your resources. do you have any copyright limitation upon your resources? surely i’ll credit you if i’m using this. ;]
Thank you, Caleb, these are fabulous textures. I’ve long loved the look of old tintype photos. I have some old family tintypes but, sadly, they are deteriorating. I appreciate the time it took to remove the images from these great textures.
These are amazing!!! Thank you so much!!! :)
These are fantastic. I will use them to transform my Civil War reenactment photos into tin types. I would like to know how you removed the objects and left the background. I have family tin types that I could convert. Thank you.

These are really cool! I had one good one of these that I have used over and over, again. Thanks. I would love to know how you removed the images from the originals. LOL
Thank you,
Su
Beautiful and lovely of you to share. Sorry to be technical, but daguerreotypes aren’t film. Old film textures would also be cool, but more scratchy, speckly, dusty.
