Free Texture Tuesday: Burned Paper

There’s this little bookstore where I live that has a secluded room towards the rear of the building that is packed with old and antique books. I’ll often just go and pull random books from the shelves and carefully inspect them for quality textures. For this set I took a propane torch to the edges of the paper to give the that vintage burned look. Enjoy!

  3. These seem really similar to the ones you have on lostandtaken… I liked the fact that the textures you provided here were separate from the ones offered on your site.

  7. I know some bookbinders that would be hooooorrified! But I can’t be mad at this because they’re such lovely textures!

  8. For previous designs, I’ve had to scour the corners of free stock photo sites like sxc.hu for these, and even then, they need work. Thank you so very much for sharing these!

  15. Thanks!

I love what you can do with all of these textures, so far my favorite priject using scanned textures has been this juicy couture box http://www.designpackaginginc.com/gallery/gallery.php?product_id=34

I scanned my leather covered copy of a 2nd edition Sherlock Holmes book I found at goodwill, it was completely worn and beat up. After creating my own enhanced textures from that scan I had the highlights spot uv’d to add depth and add to the experience of the book being worn. The debossing and hotstamping definitely helped as well. Thanks for your textures, looking forward to finding a home for them.

  16. Thank you ~
