Font Update: Bleeding Cowboys

I normally don’t write posts for a single font, but when I laid eyes on this treasure of a typeface (Bleeding Cowboys, by Gyom.Typo (Last Soundtrack)) I just couldn’t help myself. I wanted to share it with everyone right away. Have a look for yourself. Everyone has their opinions, but for those of you that can find a use for this terrifically themed and textured typeface, I think you will like what you see.

Font Update: Bleeding Cowboys

Here’s a quick peek at the character set.

  1. Haven’t found a use for this one yet, but yes, wicked font! Bitt - you seem to frequent dafont.com almost as much as me! I’ve found it the most invaluable source for original and inspired fonts.

  2. Awesome font. Thanks for sharing this.

  3. sick!

Great font. You all are great!

  5. This is one of those fonts that looks almost to good. Finding the right application for it would be rough, but when you found one that fits it will look awesome. I saw this one a few weeks ago and installed it and I am just waiting for the right piece to come through.

  6. now you find this! I could have used this font a long time ago when I was designing my site. Oh well, Im sure I’ll find a use for it later on down the road.

    sweet find.

  7. I just found this the other day and was smitten by it.

  8. yeah i saw that. its such a beautiful font. i love it so much

  9. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Nice find.

  10. I’m such a font junkie that I grabbed this one right away. I may have to invent a reason to use it though…

  11. Well you should have a font categori mr. Bitt :-)

  12. Definetly a bloody font!

  13. wow, great font. Thanks for sharing! :)

  14. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thx dude, great as usual.

  15. Yeah great font. Actually all of his fonts are great. I try to keep up with his latest fonts.

  16. this font is indeed good, but i feel like i’ve already seen it everywhere.

dafont.com is amazing….too bad the entire galaxy is aware of it!

i stick to grunge-ing up fonts on my own since you get a more custom look to it
but that’s only if you have the time to do it!

  17. GREAT DARK STYLE!!!

It looks very cool- it’s just that the curls can throw you for a loop if you don’t know which letters they come on. I had a banner all figured out, but then a few curves popped out of nowhere. I guess that teaches me for not checking out the typeface first, though. :P

  23. i downloaded this from a site the other week cos it’s so pretty! can’t wait to find a use for it.

  24. WOW, Really like it

  25. Is the font done from scratch or did the creator rip an existing one and modified it?

  26. What if you have two lowercase “g”s together?
    As in:
    giggle
Wouldn’t the lower swirlies look a little much?
    I’d have to see it.
    Great design, though!

Great font… shame I can’t use it for commercial stuff tho.. (well, for free anyhoo).

  28. I’m really not a fan of those fonts that come previously processed, i.e. the “rotten” effect. Every time you put two letters together, like ee or oo, it looks artificial. For me there should a least be a “clean” version, without the rot.

  30. Great font but why is the bottom cut off (uppercase A, D, N, T, U and lowerecase a, f, g, I, y) in Microsoft Programs (Word, Powerpoint, Publisher)? Displays correctly in Photoshop.

  31. Michael Said...

    Dave,
Have you tried printing it out to see if the font is only displaying on screen as cut off.. I have spent a lot of time working with MS files for printing (not a pleasant experience). Remember these are only Microsoft applications so the display can be a little incomplete when dealing with fonts that have decending elements.
There was a setting for fonts, going from memory, for fractional widths in how it displayed fonts. I was better for typography if it was turned on. These usually did fine when printed to a laser printer or image setter.

  32. Also prints incorrectly. Problem seems limited to Microsoft apps and Surething label designer. Displays and prints correctly from Photoshop and Corel Painter X. I have other fonts that have long descenders on them and they do display and print correctly from MS apps.

  34. I’m not sure why you’re having display problems with the PC. I have no way to test it :/

  35. This is awesome thanks so much.

Ah, I absolutely love this font, and have already had the privelage of using it! Made some flyers for a group participating in an Arts festival in Kansas City, and I used the font for all the headers on the flyers and posters!

  37. Fun. Project, with this font, coming right up.

awesom…. font… great work …. i really like the work and i have no words to discribe it….

  39. hey. great font! like it! but i can’t open it - there’s a pop up that appears and says “unexpected end of archive” and “the archive is either in unkown format or damaged” - how can this be resolved? thanks

  40. I’m not sure about that unless it’s a mac/pc thing.
Try downloading from Gyoms site here:

  41. thanks a lot. that was useful!

  42. Awesome font! Fonts like this are hard to come. Definitely much easier than having to create the distress yourself.

  43. I also have the cutoff in display and printing with the microsoft apps.

    Bummer.

I emailed Gyom about it and my impression was that it probably was designed on (or for) photoshop.

    Bummer.

I can’t seem to figure out a way to make Word deal properly with the dangly characters…

It looks great at first sight. But in my opinion what sells the font is the presentation image, the background where it was placed. Blue and brown always does it for me.

What I think it should have been done was to separate the twirly bits from the letters.
Have them as an extra set of characters. In the same font file but not “glued” to some of the letters.

Even better, if it was in OpenType format we could have it both ways, a version with and a version without the twirly bits.
But this is a free font, so there is no much point in asking for improvements. I am glad for having it as it is.

The twirly bits make it a little akward to use for some words

    See written Agnes
Ibet a lot of people will like it, but it would have been much better to have the twirly bits separate and have the choice of using them if we wanted.

  47. I love it! I’m always searching for new textured and eroded fonts, and I have to say thanks for posting this one.

  48. i think if you have 2 lowercase g’s together like the word BLOGGING then it might look a bit weird, but otherwise a pretty cool font.

  49. That’s a cool looking font.
    Downloading now.

  50. Compliments, absomotherfuckinlutely great work !!!

  51. Super!!! I couldn’t have discovered this at a better time -I’m in the process of trying to design a Old Western-style “Wanted” poster for an upcoming Photoshop class and the font was bothering me. Thanks Bitt! … looooove those curly swashes and that distressed look.
For those “font junkies” out there you might also want to try 1001fonts.com.

I have seen this font waaaay too many times now. People are just typing in words with this font, and using it as a logo.
The 2007 Motocross De Nations used it, I’ve seen at least 4-5 bands switch their logos to this font. It was amazing at first, now I feel like it’s overused and unoriginal because it’s so recognizable.

  53. Absolutely beautiful font. I admit though…you need a special occasion to use it. I was researching fonts for a haunted gold mine ride concept and I found Bleeding Cowboys. It is perfect…the right blend of Old West and Spooky.

  54. I actually used this font in a logo title for a story I’m writing. It fits perfectly, with the except that I replaced the “o” with a bullet hole. :P

It’s the perfect blend of old west and grungy.

  55. thank you for sharing!

  56. Damn that’s a good one. Thank you Thank you.

  57. Nice retro font. Thank you
