30 Illustrator Pattern Brushes for Making Flowers and Circular Designs
In a previous post I talked about using a pattern brush in Illustrator for a fast way to get perfectly spaced, intricate circular designs. Well, I have a set of 30 Pattern brushes for you to use for that same purpose. Remember that these brushes are intended to be used for circular designs, so results on other shapes may vary. If you want to know how to make a pattern brush, read the previous post. Download and Installation instructions below.

These Illustrator brushes are designed to be used to create shapes such as flowers, easily and quickly. As you experiment, don’t forget to play with stroke size, and even brush options. (double click on the brush itself in the brushes palette.) Below you will find a screenshot of the shapes that make up the brushes, as well a few examples of the shapes you can achieve with this brush set.

Download CS1 Version:
Previous Ill Versions – EPS/SVG Source File:
Installation:
Even though it has an .ai extension, the file you downloaded is an “Illustrator Brush Library,” not an actual Illustrator file. You will not be able to open the file in Illustrator.
1. Unzip the File.
2. Copy or move the file to your Illustrator > Presets > Brushes folder.
3. Restart Illustrator If it was open during installation.
Loading the Brushes:
1. Open Illustrator and make sure the Brushes Palette is open. (Window > Brushes)
2. Click on the little arrow in the upper right of the rushes palette and got to “Open Brush Library,” then click on “BB_circular_flowers.ai” to load the brushes.

why do you only have the AI file formats for cs 3 and 1 but not 2 ??
Yeah, I never bought CS2, but the CS1 version should work fine in CS2.

damn that was a quick reply lol.. ok thanks heaps x
by the way.. i really like this website youve created here.. i think its a great resource for experienced, or like myself, budding designers. Im curious. Do you know or have you heard of any designers that have gained employment or gotten anywhere in design without going through some kind of schooling? Cos im putting in the hard yards from what ive learned from good books and online resources like this one here. I figure with a good enough portfolio and the right attitude, an employer will hire me at some point from the skill sive gained from my own selt teaching even though i wont have a degree or other kind of certificate.
p.s.. forgive the typos :/
Frank,
You can absolutely get a job as a designer without a degree. In fact lots of companies only require an associates degree, but to be honest with you, degrees mean little to nothing when someone is looking at your portfolio.
Granted, there may be exceptions, some companies probably require it, but let the quality of you work speak for itself, and be honest with your interviewer. If your work is ample, and your skills meet the requirements, I would hire someone in your position.
Good Luck! And when looking for a job, be aggresive, respectful, and emphasize the fact that you are interested in the job. (call back to check when you say you will, etc.) It shows dedication, responsibility, and energy.

To continue the off-topic part: I applied for a job as a graphic designer just yesterday when I’m actually a webdesigner (those are really 2 different worlds). I’ll keep you updated on the interviews if you like :)
on-topic: I was kindof looking for this. thanks Bittbox!
would this work with photoshop cs
In response to the off topic…..Thanks BittBox and Mark .. I read what you wrote a few messages ago and it kind of confirmed what i already suspected. That the work speaks for itself, and that customers, clients and most employers dont give a damn how you get your skills, only that you have them, so thanks for the confidence boost.
@Frank,
I’m reading “How to be a graphic design without losing your soul” by Adrian Shaughnessy (link) and there’re plenty of tips about the profession itself, how to work as freelance, how to open a studio, how to find clients, etc.
Highly recommended.
@dummy,,,, cheers.. ill check that out.
many thanks
Bittbox.. the brushes are awesome and they’re opening up fine, but when i fill the brushes with colour, its filling from the shape of the bounding box rather than the brush shape. Is there a way round this ?
its ok i sussed it out… select the brush shape on your screen with the selection tool, then hit ‘ctrl 7′ . It applies a clipping mask.
thanks for adding those examples, else I would not have figured out how to use those! (stupid me)
These look like the the BP logo on ACID…….Trippy stuff. Great freebie.
@DBdesignCo…. yeh im getting some pretty trippy results too…Using the blending modes as BittBox has suggested in the past sure mixes things up aswell.
As always, great stuff BittBox. Thanks for the freebie!
Thank you again for a timesaving delivery :-)

Thank you. You make me so happy with your amazing treats!
This is somewhat unrelated, but since I have found your website and a few others, I have been dowloading a myriad of wonderful online resources and documents. But since most of what I download is just one image here and there, I am having an extremely difficult time cataloguing everything I’m getting. How do you keep tabs on where everything is? I have a “Library” folder where I keep everything, but from there it’s all a mess. I’m one of those organized types… I feel it helps me remember what my options are. Any suggestions? I don’t want to lose all these wonderful things I’m finding!
And by the way, what you are doing for all of us is wonderful. I’m just starting out in this big new world as a designer, freelance at that, and don’t have the income to fund my ‘habbit’. So thank you, sincerely.
Frank, i do not have a design degree and have been getting by with friends, hard work, making mistakes and getting work from friends and family. this is branching out though, which is nice. Bitt helps a lot and you might find some good help over at Start A Design Biz, my blog , just click on my name here.
PS- Don’t give up! IT’s hard but worth it!
Dummy, that book is good?
I’ve found that contacting people who are advertising on the backs and inside covers of magazines could be a good way to get some high paying clients.
Just send them a sample of what you could do for them?
About the offtopic, I work as a freelance designer and I don’t hace a design degree. In fact, I’m studying to get a Communication Degree. I love my work, but my only issue comes with the place where I live. Here the design in all the levels is underated. I’m trying to reach an international audience but it’s nearly impossible. ?Advise someone?
@lawton chiles….thanks lawton.. ill certainly check out your blog..Right now im organizing a portolio that ill print out just as soon as im a bit more settled in work…Any encouragement from people that are doing the hard yards without going through schooling cos they just dont have the time or funds is really appreciated by me… I wont give up.. I engjoy designing too much.
Thanks! Great Stuff as always!
You should think about adding a Forum to this site. ……
