This week I’ve got some really cool dried paint textures from a local welding shop. Someone decided to use a giant piece of plex for a painting palette. I found it in in a back corner of a shop and snapped some images. I know it’s Wednesday, been under the weather for a couple days :(

Today I have a set of five various textures that I’ve pulled from my own archive. Hopefully you can find something here that will fit in with a design you’re working on. Enjoy!

And the 10 lucky winners are: Simon, jeannie, Sue Brettell, MAANJO, Akshay Sawant, Victor Abadio, Pablo Lara H, Aubrey, Adam, and Craig Paterson. To start off the week, we’ve got some really cool free stuff. Our friends at Designious.com, who so generously offer freebies on a regular basis, have launched a brand new premium design resource site today called DesignTNT.com. It’s a subscription-based site, so you can really get some good deals with the right kind of account and diligent downloading. I’ve got 10 Pro accounts (good for 1 month) to give away to some lucky BittBoxers, make sure and read the rules (they’ve changed a bit) and good luck!
*[Updated]* – The winners are jeannie, Eve, and maginate. Congratulations and we hope you enjoy the resources. You will be contacted via email about how to claim your prize.
You may have noticed that BittBox looks a little different! In the spirit of the redesign, I’ve got some free stuff! I’ve got 3 copies of some premium Photoshop Brushes (72 Distressed Paper Brushes) and premium textures (50 Grunge Metal & Rust Textures) from Photoshop Island to give away.Be sure to read the rules and good luck!
I found these vintage book cover textures laying around on my hard drive the other day, going unshared. I think they were leftovers from a previous set a couple of years ago, but I thought they are useful enough to share with you guys. Hopefully they’ll help add a little vintage flair to your designs. Enjoy!

Bokeh textures are some of the most beautiful and rare resources out there. If you’re in need of a good bokeh image, it can pay off to make your own rather than using a pre-made one. In this tutorial I’ll go over creating bokeh using both a digital camera or photoshop. Let’s get started!
Creating Bokeh using a DSLR
Have a camera? Awesome. Photographing bokeh textures is super easy, all you need is a suitable light source. Here I’ve used a small set of christmas lights, but other things will work too: city skylings at night, streetlights, stars, just have some playing around with it.
I’ll be using an older model Canon Rebel with a stock lens to shoot these. First, I set up the lights in front of a black curtain. It helps if you can isolate the light source as much as possible.
For this image, I used the following settings: zoomed into 55mm, shutter: 1/100 sec, F5.6, manual focus set to blur the image.
