This might be a tip that is more useful for bloggers or tech writers than designers, but I’ve found myself in this situation plenty of times. I need an application icon to use as an image for one reason or another, I can’t find a decent one online, and all of the crappy conversion shareware software is just wasting my time. I came across a very neat trick over at Macosxhints that was super simple and no 3rd party software is required. If you have OS X you can use the Terminal App (Applications > Utilities) to convert any ICNS file to an image format that can be used in whatever Photoshop.

I want to share a very useful tip with all of you who have ever wanted to throw your computer across the room because of Photoshop for one reason or another. It’s inevitable, every once in a blue moon, software can just make your day a living hell for no obvious reason. It can be anything from the Layers palette won’t show up, to menu items grayed out when they shouldn’t be. I want to show you a quick way to put your problems behind you without having to re-install Photoshop.

Hi everyone. I’m currently seeking a Mac Developer/Programmer that also has experience with Adobe development (specifically, Photoshop) for a very cool project I have in the works. As many of you might know, BittBox is a place for designers to come for freebies, tutorials, and recently, fonts. My ambition isn’t stopping there. I would very much like to develop some software that I’ve wanted/needed forever, and no one seems to be answering the call. So…I’m taking things into my own hands, and trying to stir things up and get something started. Details after the jump…

Some of you may have noticed that Leopard’s finder doesn’t really like EPS files. Its a huge inconvenience to have to open a file just to see what’s in it, and if you’re at all like me, you have a hard drive full of downloads that need to be browsed once in a while. Never fear, EPSQuickLookPlugin is here to help. It’s a (freeware) plugin for QuickLook, that allows you to view the contents of an EPS file (in Finder and QuickLook) without opening an application. Now that’s gonna save me about 500 hours per year, I’d guestimate.

We all love those little tips that save us a click or two, and I’ve got another one for you. For those of you on a Mac, you might remember how I showed you a faster way to install Photoshop brushes. This little click saver is pretty much the same thing. Details after the jump.

[OS X 10.5] While having a Volume, Brightness, Pause/Play buttons integrated into my keyboard may be convenient, it really drives me crazy that my function keys don’t, well…function like I want them to in Photoshop. (or illustrator, etc.) I want to show you a way that I managed to get around this while keeping the functionality of the media buttons at the same time.

With all of the recent activity with Apple updates and software releases, this one caught me a little off guard. Apple has just released Aperture 2, and shaved a $100 off the price. (Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it used to be around $300) If you’re a Mac user and a Photographer, this is great news. Personally, I love Aperture for RAW image processing. I think I’m finally gonna buckle down and drop the cash for it this time. Can’t wait to see what’s new!
