Resource: Best Brands of the World

Resource: Best Brands of the WorldHave you ever been frustrated when you ask a client for a high-res logo and they keep sending you thumbnails? A lot of you have probably been in a situation where you could really use a vector logo, and your client can’t deliver.

Best Brands of the World (brandsoftheworld.com) is an online treasure trove of vector logos. There you’ll find thousands of logos for big name companies and small ones alike. There are even logo variations for the big brands. In other words, you might even be able to find event-specific logos, and specialty logos.

All of the logos you find at brandsoftheworld.com are free and come in EPS format. So, the next time your doing an event poster sponsored by Pepsi, you don’t have to rely on the client for the Pepsi logo, however, it’s always wise to get the logo approved before using it.

  1. Bitt, thanks for the tip on Brands of the World, but I’m afraid that this is a pretty old and well-known resource out there in the design world.

We really appreciate what you do here at BittBox and one of the great attractions to this site over others is the insight you give on designing and the different tips and tricks you offer. It’s a little disappointing to come across a post about a site that 90% of the design world knows about already.

Here’s hoping that the next post will be a little more informative and useful.

    :)

  2. @Dan

You’re a prick. Even if you already knew about it, the other 10% that you claim doesn’t know about it would find this site particularly useful. What impetus do you have to come in here and complain about duplicative information? Get over yourself.

I won’t even go into the particularly ridiculous usage of made up statistics to substantiate your post.

Another free resource that is great for vector logos, and might be a little more extensive is http://www.logotypes.ru

Thank you to BittBox for your contributions, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT ANY OF YOUR POSTS CONTAINS UBIQUITOUS KNOWLEDGE OR NOT. Keep up the good work.

  3. Gosh, I must be one of those ignorant 10 percent. Thanks for keeping up for our sake, BittBox… (and E.T.). Quite useful….

  4. Sorry, I’m with Dan.

  5. I’m one of those “sux to be in the 10%”.

Perhaps all those designers who think that only a designer would find your site useful should realize that they may not be the only people looking at your site.

As you stated in your introduction…sometimes you ask for a high-res logo, and all you get is directed at their website and told to use some highly compressed graphic. Many people use logos for documents and presentations that they make to clients, and thus this is a valuable resource for anyone…not merely a designer.

Heres to you Bitt for thinking of the 10%’rs too!

    jason

  6. i agree it is a very useful resource site. I found myself using it on many occasions. You can even find government agencies logo there.

  7. Saved my life a million times. Also good for finding safety symbols and signs.

  8. It is a great site. I used it several times at college…

  9. I’m with Dan on this one too.

  10. How can people be with Dan? Regardless of whether or not it is a well known site, he readily admits that there are 10% that don’t know about it.

Have you never come across something that everyone else seemed to know about, but you didn’t…hell just last week Gruber posted about a site that he hadn’t known about, that seemed to have slipped under his radar.

It is useful for everyone, even if you knew about it before, a helpful reminder of its existence hurts no one. Get a life, and stop being such a tool.

  11. Dan, what a strange comment.

I’ve seen posts on everything from the polygon tool to making your own Illustrator brushes, and these are hardly groundbreaking discoveries. IMO, part of the enormous appeal of this blog is that it covers the ESSENTIALS. There’s so much to know and some basic BASIC tips can go SO far. Add to this the insight and creativity you mentioned and you have a sight for our favorites list.

Surely you wouldn’t go to every post with a tip familiar to you and post “I knew that already” in the comments section, so why do it with any post at all? Then you chide the author?

    @Bitt: Thanks.

  12. I’m often reminded that even tho I may know something, someone else may not. I often see comments done from one person’s perspective which don’t take others’ lack of said experience into consideration. This is why I like to refresh myself by being reminded of the basics.

I didn’t know about this site before, so thanks BittBox for mentioning it. I’m finding Brands of the World’s design to be oddly awkward, however, but I’ll keep poking around.

  13. Michael Belanger-Taylor

I’m one of the alleged 10%, and I’m damn grateful for the post, and for the link ET Cook posted.

But you know, when Bitt posts something I already know, I dont think ‘what a dumb post’, nor do I complain about it. I just skip over it. And I’m still grateful.

    So thanks!

  14. Thanks Bitt for the site.

“The dumbest people I know are those who know it all.” -Malcolm Forbes

  15. I’ll be the 5th to admit that didn’t know of this specific site. Others yes but none this complete. That’s 33% of the commenters so far.

  16. i work in marketing / ad sales development. so i need to look for logos everyday.

this is a good tool to use, however the logos are often outdated… but its a good place to look, sometimes a litle photoshop / illustrator work is needed. most corporate sites have links to annual reports that are often print ready, some even have media kits. as a last resort, a google image search for “(company name) high res logo” sometimes leads to a ‘large enough to pass for high res’ result.

  17. Yep that site has been a definite bookmark, good job posting it.

  18. It seems to me that 90% of us think Dan is a prick.

I just found this site yesterday and spent about 2 hours reading through Bitt’s tutorials. Some of the tips were like revelations, others I’d known about for a long time. Who cares when the knowledge comes. Thanks for sharing Bitt, your tips are very easy to learn, very concise and relevant. Keep them coming! Dan is just a prick.

  19. and those who are with dan, are pricks too!

if your so advanced as to “know everything” then piss off and let people who really benefit from this site to use it for the great resource it really is.

Bittbox is doing a fine job and doesnt need comments and remarks like Dan made. Dan, you forget what this site is all about.

Just to say to Bittbox though, great Job, love the site and the dedication you put into the work you are doing. there are limited resources and help on the net for newcomers, this is just about the best i have come across. great stuff.

its quite simple for those who think they are ahead of it all here, take a long walk off a short cliff….

  20. Massimo Nastasi

I know this site when the url was “http://logo.nino.ru” and it’s always the best logo resouce, so, this link is always useful. Thanks.

  21. This site is full of treasures.

I know it since a few time, I’m happy that also you are his user.

    Good job!

    ———–
Questo sito è pieno di “chicche”.

Lo conosco già da molto tempo, sono contento che anche tu sei un suo utente.

    Bel lavoro!

  22. All hale the great Dan- all knowing, a legend in his own mind.

Remember that there are 1000’s of people who come to this site for tips and tricks- I am sure all of us have found tips that we have known about, but I would bet that the vast majority of us have gained some insight and information- the very reason we keep coming back.
So lay off the bad language- your embarrassing yourself.

  23. Another vote for “Dan’s a prick.” This site is great, and Bitt can post whatever he wants.

  24. Good grief! I thought opinions were just that, they were just opinions. Everyone has them, everyone has the right to share them.

I, personally, like coming to the site and reading all of the posts, no matter what level, but there’s really no reason to go attacking someone’s “e-character” is there? Dan made an opinion, and that’s it. This is the Internet, you’re going to find those A LOT on here. :)

Come on loyal BittBox readers, we all know how much we love Bitt and coming here, and I’m sure Dan does too, so let’s constructively discuss and delve into why he wrote a comment. Let’s work to make this little niche of ours NOT like everywhere else, where countless little “anonymous” and ambiguous user names rattle off useless insults at another anonymous and ambiguous user name.

This site is a site full of useful, quick, to-the-point design tips, freebies and free vectors. Let’s keep it that way and not fall into the “let’s-yell-at-each-other-on-the-comments” trap.

  25. @Bitt - thanks for posting this for those who might not have known. I appreciate all of your hard work.

  26. i just think that when you don’t find something useful, you just don’t post at all. i knew about this site, but i also remember my reaction the day someone told me about it. it is a great tool, and everyone has the right to know about it.

  27. @Jason

There is a difference between opinion (which in this case served no productive purpose), and senseless and unsolicited complaining. The stance that when you already know of a particular link, that that should preclude its posting is painfully elitist.

We have all been in a situation where we are told something that everyone considered ubiquitous knowledge, and are thankful that individual went out of their way to share it with you.

That is the broad appeal of the website. I myself knew of logotypes, but not of brands of the world…and I thank BittBox profusely for posting it.

Also, note that I certainly am not anonymous in my responses, nor is Dan…however you, under the generic moniker Jason…with no other identifier…complain about anonymity? Tell tale sir, tell tale.

  28. Great site, I have been using it for years, it truly is a life saver (sort of).

logotypes.ru is a another good one, not as much as brands of the world though.

  29. Apparently I am not reading all of the posts here, sorry about posted about logotypes,ru again.

  30. I’ve been using that site for a few years.

Be careful though. Sometimes you’ll stumble upon one that is really close, but there is something different about it that isn’t instantly noticeable. The client always notices if their logo is even slightly different.

  31. Yeah, sure, I knew about the site already, but that’s good for me too. Now I got to feel good that I was already in the know about it..

By the way, Dan? 64% of all statistics are made up on the spot to strengthen a shaky argument.

  32. Another tip: On more than a few occasions, when a client couldn’t provide a suitable vector logo, and I couldn’t find it elsewhere, I’ve had luck googling for a PDF of the company’s annual report and extracting the logo from that.

Dan–if you already knew that too, I’m mighty sorry to have insulted your intelligence.

  33. Great tip, EWO! It’s amazing how often you can find the vector you need from a filetype:PDF search.

Not to endorse anything shady here, but the following tool can unlock PDFs for the purpose of image extraction:

  34. @ dan

Im an idiot, not a graphic designer.

This website actually seems pretty helpful.

Heres to Dan starting his own blog! :)

  35. I’m a signmaker and I gotta say, Brands of the World has been a life saver since I found it a couple of years ago. Back-ups are good to have too though, since BotW doesn’t have everything. One site I didn’t see mentioned yet is http://www.lalogotheque.com/eng/
I’ve found a couple obscure logos there that BotW didn’t have even though overall BotW’s the best of this type of resource I’ve found.

  36. YA I KNEW ABOUT THIS SITE A YEAR AGO…BUT THERES STILL DESIGNERS WHO DONT….

TO EVERYONE….CALLING DAN A PRICK IS USELESS AND STOOPS TO THE SAME-IF WORSE LEVEL….HE MADE AN OPINION…..IM IN AMERICA….WE ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPINION RIGHT?

BTW…BITT…..THIS IS A NICE POST…BUT WHY DONT U DO A WRITE UP ON WHO DOES SPECIALTY PRINTING FOR GREAT PRICES….LIKE DIE CUTS….RAISED LETTERING, SPOT GLOSS, ROUNDED CORNERS ECT…. CAUSE I THINK THATS A HUGE SETBACK DESIGNERS FACE…IS WHERE TO GO AFTER THAT HOT BUSINESS CARD OR FLYER DESIGN…

  37. Great post. I heard about it only a few months ago but it’s very useful.
Thanks Bitt, love everything you do here.

    -chris_cran

  38. Thanks guys, I didn’t know about it and I have been a designer for 12 years and have to deal with the issues described in the post, even for some large companies I suspect will be among those on that website.

Btw, seems some people have plenty of time on their hands, regardless if they knew about the site or not ;-)

  39. yeah and i thought i remember reading there was gonna be a ton more posts

  40. I guess I missed the memo on that site too…

Here’s the site I use most often:
    http://www.logotypes101.com/

  41. I work for a small print shop and a lot of our customers don’t bring us any usable artwork. This site has has been a great resource me for a while now. Love the site, keep it up.

  42. I had seen this before, too, but unlike Dan, think it’s still valuable info to post! I had totally forgotten where to find this, so I’m glad someone remembered!

  43. dan…ur a little dork that needs attention…if i were to meet u in a dark alley i will do real bad things to ur laptop…u make designers all over the world look like little nerds…your probably really fat and lonely, oh yeah and ur a virgin too…u little freak why don’t you write something useful…

    ps ur a noob

  44. What do you know that you take for granted that is “rocket science” to others?

For some people it may be the normal day to day stuff but this very same stuff for everyone else, could be a mine field.

There is no original idea .. what I know you may now how to twist to make it better.

Ever re read a book or article and find something you missed?

Listen carefully and think before you communicate … not after like Dan.

  45. SeptemberGirl84

I have found this site to be very helpful. My job had requred me to use corporate logos and also spoof real logos. Very good resource that I use often.

  46. Thanks Bitt. I’m still a student in Design- so I know this will help me out a lot. You’ve got some great pointers in photoshop in illustrator, keep it up. Thanks!
