I, too, am using CS2 and the paintbucket tip was what I was looking for too. Is there any way to change the whole Photoshop window? I got the latest photoshop elements and the whole window – toolbars, etc…is dark grey, which is a lot easier on the eyes.

Thank you so much, I’ve been banging my head trying to figure this out as I had no clue how it changed to begin with. I just couldn’t handle the blackness behind my pictures when working with dark layouts.

Maybe I just didn’t know it back then, but as far as I remember pre-CS3 Photoshop releases only allowed you to customize the black color (the one in fullscreen view) by shift-clicking with the paint bucket. I don’t think it worked with the light gray area that is around the image in normal or full screen with menu mode. But as I said, I may be mistaken here.
