How to Make Vector Grunge

After my “50 Free Vector Grunge Corners” post, I got a lot of responses asking how to make vector grunge. Well, I’m going to show you exactly how, and trust me, anyone can do it. It’s not as hard as you might think, thanks to InkScape (free).

Seamless Vector Star Pattern

This is only the second seamless vector pattern I’ve made, so I’m going to keep posting them one at a time. If you aren’t an Illustrator user, you can easily take this pattern into Photoshop and make a brush out of it or use it as a pattern fill for a background. You might see this pattern pop up in some freebies soon, here on BittBox. I thought I would go ahead and release the pattern anyway.

50 Free Vector Grunge Corners

I took an evening and put together this set of free vector grunge corners for everyone to download. I have searched countless times for free vector grunge and came up empty handed. Not only are grunge vectors difficult to make, but extremely difficult to find as a freebie (except here on BittBox). Grunge is always a hot item, but have you ever downloaded the PERFECT grunge Photoshop brush, only to find that the brush is 100 pixels wide? Not very helpful if your design is bigger than 100 pixels huh? Well that’s one of the great things about vector graphics, scale isn’t a factor. You can scale vectors all day to fit your design, without compromising a pixel-worth of quality. I think I have a few vector paths here to keep you busy for a while, enjoy :) Formats: AI, EPS, SVG, PNG, Ill8.

P.S. I also included some source grunge for you to play around with.

Brand Nu V2 Launches

Brand Nu is the online portfolio of Radim Malinic, a Digital Artist/Illustrator from the UK. His work is extremely high quality, and highly sought-after. Brand Nu launched a new version of the site today, along with 24 new works! This is one of my favorite sites, not only because the artwork is magnificent, but it’s a source of inspiration as well as an example of an artist pushing the limits of digital media. Take a few minutes and browse Brand Nu’s Showcase section to witness some of the very best vector and raster digital art out there.

Pathfinder: Explained

If you aren’t familiar with Illustrator’s extremely handy “Pathfinder” palette, you might sit down for a few moments to play with it, because it is a true time saver, and an excellent tool for manipulating paths. First, of all let me say that “Pathfinder” is a horrible name for this palette. It doesn’t actually “find” paths. It makes it easy to combine paths, divide objects, subtract shapes, etc.
