Free High-Res Texture Pack: The Anatomy of a *Really* Old Book

I have to admit … These textures were really fun to make. I went to a little book store over the weekend that you can’t even find on Google Maps, bought a book that is about 50 yrs old, dissected it (literally), and scanned all the parts. It took a while, but I have a very cool free high resolution texture pack for everyone to download. There are 12 textures, all over 3000px. You can see them all individually on flickr by clicking on each image, or download all of them in a zip at the bottom.

I’m going to post the textures in order from front cover to back cover. This should be fun;)

  33. The poor book. :(

As someone who pulls takes apart flowers and things to scan, though, I guess I can’t complain too much. This might be just the stuff I need for my site. Thanks!

  34. Awesome material, definitely a great share
    Thanks for all you do!

  35. You’re my hero. Thanks!

  36. What a great idea you had. Thanks for sharing with us!

  37. What about the book!? It might have been a good read and fetched a few bob in an antiques shop! :-)

  38. Hello,
I am working in Apples Motion. How do I get rid of the white border around the images?

    Any tips would help.
    Thanks

  39. Ultra cool :-)

  40. so amazing! :)
i needed something like that some time ago. well i’ll use it next time i need to make a old fashion book.
how did you get rid of the text? looks like some very time consuming work.

btw: i should read here less via feed – where is your previous design? but this one is nice too! :)

  41. its gems like these that have landed you your own “bittbox” directory in my resources drive! thanks again.

  42. Very nice, thanks for doing this and spreading the wealth!

  43. maybe the best free thing ever. thanks. Jaimie

  44. Thanks!

  45. beautiful! thanks, bitt!

  46. Sorry if I missed it, but what are all these images licensed under?

    Some type of CC license?

    Thanks!

  47. Great stuff, thanks for sharing. A lot of nice comments but why is nobody Digging / Stumbling this stuff, I think people need to share them if they enjoyed them, no?

  48. Thanks Bitt! I used them for a CD jacket/favor for someone! Love your site!

  49. @liam & Everyone

First of all, I love my readers. They are the best. I love the fact that I can post something that I think is great and find out it’s second rate. I love the fact that everyone here is willing to learn from each other. That’s what BittBox is all about, and I’m very proud of the community we have here.

I work very hard on making these freebies. I would love it of my readers would be kind enough to Digg the stories more often. I just launched the new design, and you might notice that there is no longer a ‘Donate” button because no one was donating. Spreading the word by digging (above the comments section) and sharing is the easiest way to say thanks, and it’s just a couple clicks :)
I would actually rather get a digg than a donation, but I’ve never really voiced my opinion about that so I can’t blame the readers.

BTW I have a new idea for some paper textures that I can’t wait to share with everyone. I know I’ve been on a texture kick lately but this is gonna be sweet, even sweeter than the book textures maybe ;)

    ~Bitt

  50. cool…… Tnx

    Insh

  51. Hi ***BB***
These stars are not enough to appriciate your effort and kindness all great stuff you share here with our ‘creative community’..its really a blessing to get cool stuff. Some times I feel like you are “BIG BRO” for us…comes up with interesting goodies every time!!

  52. Hi Bitt. I would just like to bring to your attention that the background image in your header shifts when it goes beyond the 800px. Have a look

  53. wow great set! thanks again bitt!

  54. HELL YEAH! YOU ROCKS!

  55. I love and adore this. I just spent all week trying to find some nice cardboard and paper textures and nothing I found was this good. Thanks!

  56. Oh my goodness this is what I have been looking for.. I think I am in love! AWESOME!

  57. Thanks Bitt! These are perfect for a project I’m working on.

  58. Bitt, dont hesitate to share your new stuff! ;)

as for digging, i agree! (btw, i started the first digg here :) )

  64. THANKS A LOOOOOOOT!

  65. Those are great! Thank you so much!

  66. Thanks Bitt these are awesome. Do you have any tutorials on how to make seamless patterns? I always think I find a good one and yet somehow screw it up, even when making simple stripe patters (and more elaborate ones), i always seem to have a random white line or part of the artboard in there…. just wondering…
    Love your biggest fan….

  67. These are awesome!

I was just wondering what scanner and software did you use?

  68. Very professional, as always!

  69. Oh the poor book. What book is it?

  70. Thanks, Jay! A great freebie pack once again! I love them!

  71. @ Marco

    “Hello,
I am working in Apples Motion. How do I get rid of the white border around the images?”

You could use a “Keying” or “Chromo-Keying”-Filter, I think. Motion is very powerful

  72. Amazing – Thanks so much!

  73. @bobdole,

I’m not familiar with Apples Motion, but you could use the “Instant Alpha” tool in Preview to get the job done, and save as a PNG.

    Jay (~Bitt)

  74. This is really great stuff…thanks so much.

Let me know where to Digg this and I will.

    Daniel

  75. Jay, I’m excited about the textures to come. These are so awesome, I hope you stay on this “texture kick” forever!
