Mac/Adobe Developer Wanted:
Hi everyone. I’m currently seeking a Mac Developer/Programmer that also has experience with Adobe development (specifically, Photoshop) for a very cool project I have in the works. As many of you might know, BittBox is a place for designers to come for freebies, tutorials, and recently, fonts. My ambition isn’t stopping there. I would very much like to develop some software that I’ve wanted/needed forever, and no one seems to be answering the call. So…I’m taking things into my own hands, and trying to stir things up and get something started. Details after the jump…

First Things First: The Project
I want to develop a very simple, very sexy software that does a single task, and does it very well. I know 100% that there is a high demand in the Mac-Graphic Design world for this little gem of an app, not only from my experience as a designer, but my hundreds of Google queries in search of something remotely similar, and countless forum threads I’ve come across with desperate designers begging for the exact program I wish to develop. I can’t explain the details of the software until developers who are interested in participating agree to a Non-Disclosure Agreement. The App will be simple, easy to use, convenient for designers, lightweight (hopefully), and very very cheap (if not free).
1. I need a developer.
I’m a designer, and therefore, not fluent in the development (programming) environment. For this project, I need someone who loves to code for Mac, and is willing to work with me on the UI and User experience.
2. The programmer will be paid.
If you are selected, you will be compensated for your code mastery, and I will cover the cost for any Developer Membership (ADC, Adobe, etc.) needed to access the code you need. I’m willing to pay cash via Paypal, check, or Apple gift card. Hourly rates and compensation are always negotiable. If you’d rather become my partner on this project, as opposed to a hired programmer, that’s negotiable too. I’m not in this to take advantage of anyone. I’m willing to make this a long-term relationship if you are. I just want to grab the bull by the horns and do the design community a much-needed service.
3. What (who) I’m looking for:
The ideal candidate would be experienced at Mac development (i.e. Cocoa, Objective-C, xCode, interfaceBuilder, etc.). Experience developing for Adobe/Photoshop is a bonus, but not 100% necessary. The ideal candidate should also have a love for attention to detail, and considers the user experience of utmost importance, along with optimization of system resources.
4. If You’re Interested… Or know someone who might be..
Email me using the contact form, and put “Developer” somewhere in the subject line. Tell me a little about your experience, skills, and why you be a good fit for this project. Portfolios and websites are a bonus. If I think you’ve got what it takes, I’ll send you a Non-Disclosure Agreement, and we can discuss the project in detail.
You can also feel free to send me links or introduce me to people who might be wiling to participate, if you know a developer that doesn’t visit this site. Thanks for listening, and I hope to get this project off the ground soon, I know you will all love it :)

Let’s have a contest; guess what kind of program you want developed. The winner gets a free iphone ;-)
Have you thought of an RIA, that way just about any one can use it besides the Mac users?
I guess that depends on what the app will do. It sounds interesting, ill have to keep a closer eye on your site for more news.
-Gautch
Whoops, is RIA the right term? I ment an AIR app. Sorry.
-Gautch
@Gautch - RIA, or Rich Internet Application, was the right term, sort of. an RIA only runs in a browser, but AIR apps allow RIA’s to run like they were desktop apps.
as far as bitt’s post goes, i am trying to learn how to program for the mac, and am currently a designer, so i wish i could help, but can’t.
excited to here what the app will be. you’ve peeked my curiosity.
@Gautch and @Zach - I’m not sure AIR is really built for what Bitt is after… Besides, I’m sure there are more experienced Cocoa devs out there than there are AIR devs…
I’m sure that if the right developer get on this project then it will make a big impact in the Mac designer community ;)
There are designers using Windows and Adobe products too =o …. just saying =D
@Sergio,
There’s already a Windows version for what I have in mind.
~Bitt
If I’ll speak and write english better, I would try to be this developer :D

I’m dying to find a good font management tool for Windows.
@Grant,
Have you tried Extensis Suitcase?
The only thing I didn’t like about it was I couldn’t stop it from loading at every boot…
Exciting. Good luck, can’t wait to see the results of your project.
Well.. one software I really miss for the mac is a photoshop brush browser. That doesn’t exist for the mac yet.. ;-)
@dardna - Thanks for that… I’ve been meaning to get a font management thing for ages…
As for stopping it load on boot, you could have probably edited msconfig to stop it loading… You shouldn’t have to stop it like that, but it would have worked anyway :)
@rfin,
what about this? I think the .jar version works on mac and linux…
@Jonic,
you’re welcome :)
I think i tried you’re solution before with no success… anyway it really is worth that little mess!
@ rfin:
I think you’ve hit the bull’s eye. And if Bitt wants to really do a brush browser for mac there will be a huge and thankful community for this. And because no one of the design oriented mac developers has done this to this day, I think a Non-Disclosure Agreement isn’t neccessary. I would go the other way round and make this project specifically transparent. Maybe this way he can get help or donations from the community.
Here is windows/mac(jar) version of ABRView, a brush viewer in beta phase: http://www.easyelements.com/abrview.html
Anyway, good luck Bitt!
I contacted someone who should fit what you need i hopes he contacts you soon and you to take this project away
Thanks Miguiel!!!!!
~Bitt
you know what would be really useful: a program that organizes photoshop brushes and vector graphics. the same way bridge organizes program files.
i am not sure if he contacted you so here’s the link to his web site http://www.hawkstudios.net he’s a photoshop lover and as far as i know he’s a great proggramer specially for mac so if he hasn’t contacted you cfeel free to contact him i think he would be pleased to help you with this project
by the way his name if mohammed haque (most known as hawk) and he’s the responsable for http://www.applegeeks.com
@Grant-
I have Linotype Font Manager X for Mac but they make the same thing for windows. It is AWESOME. It really makes mass font management easy. I can categorize them as much as I want, put ratings, comments, highlights- It’s basically iTunes for fonts. I really recommend it. And best part- it’s FREE. I hope that helps. go to http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX?
@Grant-
Apparently the PC version of Font Explorer X is still being developed, so you might have to wait a bit for the stable version to come out. Sorry… The mac version is there, tho… :)
what’s all that concealment about?
ever thought of an open source development?
you could make your software “free software”! (you know, like in freedom - not like in free beer).
a decision in favor of free software could boost the development. have a look at the explanations in the link above.
and if you want to sell it, thats no problem - free software can be sold, too.
Thank you for the tricks
Good luck to you.
It is very difficult to finalize a project nowadays.
