Illustrator Workflow: “Persistent” Brush Palettes
Workflow is always important for productivity. Avoiding as many clicks as possible is an everyday battle, and, with this little Illy tip, I hope to help you avoid yet another 3 clicks. For some reason, the folks at Adobe decided that Illustrator shouldn’t have a ‘Preset Manager’ like Photoshop, so here we are working around it. I’d like to share with you one way I get around a lack-of-a-preset-manager in Illustrator when it comes to brushes.

It’s pretty simple. If you ever grow tired of loading a set of Illustrator brushes that you use regularly, click on the palette options in the upper right corner and select “Persistent,”and that brush set will automatically load the next time you launch Illustrator.

Thanks! I have just started learning Illustrator after 11+ years on Photoshop. This little tidbit will save me so much time!

again, one of the small things that can help so much :D
thx alot, I think I’d never noticed myself
I use it for my large swatch palettes, which makes it easier to use gradient palette.
Essential. This is something I never really think about until I go to use my custom brushes. SWEET TIP!
As usual, you guys are right on!!
As of CS3, there is one other way of doing this. If you have certain brushes, swatches, styles, and other content that you find yourself using regularly, you might want to use an AI file with that content as your starting point.

[...] Do ya use Illustrator’s additional brush palettes, like the calligraphy brushes, artistic media, or others? It’s kind of a pain to constantly dig ‘em outta Illustrator’s menus, but over at Bittbox there’s an awesome trick to make your brush life a bit easier. Says Bitt, “For some reason, the folks at Adobe decided that Illustrator shouldn’t have a “Preset Manager” like Photoshop, so…I’d like to share with you one way I get around a lack-of-a-preset-manager in Illustrator when it comes to brushes.”See how it’s done! This would be helpful, but it’s not working in my illustrator for some reason. When I follow these steps and re-open illustrator, the same old default brushes and swatches are there and in the list beside the ones I used “persistent” on it just has a check mark…am I missing something?
Thank you to share this to have the help to me
