Hi,
I desperately need help here. Tutorial was going fine but when I drew a shape and filled it with the pattern, it somehow wasn't seamless - i had repeated squares with diagonal stripes. Checked that the square to create the crop/clipping mask was "no fill/no stroke". What else could I be doing wrong? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!! :)

Why do you continue to make more work for yourself with what should be simple patterns? For a simple line (or dot pattern, as I have commented on that one) pattern draw it horizontally then use the rotate options as Jimmy correctly mentions. Obviously if the patterns are more complex then yes, they require more thought.

Another thing that you forgot to mention was expanding the blended object. And also, when I tested the pattern, I started getting these crazy seams, especially after cropping my artwork in the first place. Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I avoid it?

It's far quicker to apply a horizontal/vertical line pattern from the the defaults, double click rotate tool, and there check "patterns" and uncheck "objects".
Type in 45 and then you're done!

This didn't work as well for me, so I created horizontal repeating lines from the 'blend' tool, made the last line transparent (so it would loop more cleanly, though I should have probably moved it up one line in retrospect) and defined it as a pattern. I then applied it to squares and used the "rotate pattern" function and saved Graphic Styles for Horizontal, Vertical, Upward 45 degree angle, and Downward 45 degree angle repeating lines. When I wanted to see lines closer together or further apart I would just use the pattern zoom function:

To scale pattern only while leaving object untouched,
select pattern object > go to object menu > Transform > Scale > now check only the pattern uncheck others, activate preview, now adjust the value in uniform.

I saved these in an illustrator graphic style palette and you are welcome to use them.
