Font Update: Birth of A Hero

Another nice font release from Gyom over at Last Soundtrack has hit the web. I’m a loyal fan of Gyom because he consistently releases great fonts, and all he requires for a commercial (full) license is a donation in the amount of your choosing! To me, Birth of a Hero seems to be geometric and grungy at the same time, which could prove quite useful in certain applications. See what you think, and maybe download it and keep it in the bag for later.

Birth of A Hero also has plenty of the extra characters that most free fonts fail to deliver. Here’s a quick look at the main character set:

  1. He’s my favorite font author too.

  2. now thats a pretty awesome font

  3. It is basically just ITC Avant Garde by Herb Lubalin designed for the magazine Avant Garde. The only thing is that it is often difficult if not impossible to find it with the alternate ligatures/figures which have the interesting angles.

I wish this weren’t distressed, because it would be more useful that way but either or it is always interesting.

  4. @ Verman - I hear you, but it’s free and will def serve a purpose at some point.

Thanks for this Bittbox & Gyom!

  5. @verman: Thats exactly the first thing that sprung to my mind: Avant Garde… but hey, it looks awesome and it has that grunge look already built in.

  6. same here, Avant Garde with grungy look.

    Cool!

  7. A font like this leads to total inspiration.

  8. I’m not a big font guy or anything, but that’s a real nice font.

    Thanks for the pointer.

  9. Very nice find and download.

Something I’m always amazed it is how all the fonts that I immediately like and download find there way to Bittbox soon after. Got great taste, man!

  11. Hi! somebody knows where i can get a clean version of this font?? avant garde is not really the same.
please let me know. my email: gonzalote@gmail.com

    thanks!
    great site

  12. A clean version of this font is Avant Garde Alternate which is a pay font

  13. nice…

  14. Nice font – it’s like a dirty Avante Garde with different slants. Good job, though. Very 70’s… I suppose, since the Avante Garde font (difinitive 70’s style.) That font has become very famous, even amongst circles that don’t know much about design. Birth of a Hero looks like a great font, I think a nice twist has been added by making it a ‘dirty’ font. Some of the letters look a little different, or function differently, but it certainly has some excellent uses and goes in the bag of excellent free fonts. Thank you!

  15. nice font!
    i love it!

  16. nice
