It was a bright sunny day here in OKC today, and I got lucky enough to get some good shots of some photogenic cloud formations. I’m not the best photographer in the world, but they are really big, so even though they might not be the clearest images, they can still be used nicely under the right conditions. Today we have a useful set of free web and mobile user interface elements that was made for us by Callum Chapman. The set includes menus, dialog boxes, sliders, search boxes and more, all available in three different color schemes. They’re perfect for your web design projects as is, but you can edit them to your exact liking with the fully layered PSD that’s included in the download. I happened to randomly stumble upon a very nice free font this morning, and I thought I’d share. It’s called Banda from Typedepot, and it’s what they call a “semi-serif.” When you visit the Typedepot Banda page, the download link is at the top right. Banda is a beautiful and very versatile typeface, well worth a download :)
I’ve got some nice ones this week. Urban Decay. Who doesn’t like urban decay? These images are from a run down building built in the 1920′s. Lot’s of renovations and swapping owners created these nice urban decay textures. (You can click on the images and get the full size ones from Flickr)
I’ve recently come across a lifesaver Photoshop plugin that is gonna rock your world. It’s called GuideGuide from Cameron McEfee and it’s a godsend for creating print layouts, and web for that matter. GuideGuide is free, and its a “panel” that assists you with laying out your guides across the artboard/document. Instead of having to do the math with complicated layouts, you can simply tell guide guide how far from each side of the document you want to place a guide. So simple it hurts.
GuideGuide can even find the center of a selection! You can set the number of columns, and gutter width as well. This is one USEFUL plugin, and I wanted to share it with everyone. Thanks to my friend Mike for the tip. :)
