Its time for some more free stuff everyone, and I have a nice little giveaway for you! The kind folks over at Electric Rain have offered up 3 more copies of Swift3D V5 ($249 value each) to 3 lucky BittBox commenters. If you’re not familiar with Swift3D, it’s a very powerful 3D modeling/animation software that makes it super easy and fast to create stunning 3D animations and import them directly into Flash without writing a single line of code.

Free Texture Tuesday: Old Film

The other day I released a set of 11 Old and Grungy Film Textures on Lost and Taken that were accepted quite well, so I thought I’d do an encore release here on Bittbox. Just like the previous post, these textures were created using public domain images that were taken in the mid 19th century using the Daguerreotype method. I simply removed the subject matter from the images in Photoshop to leave only the textures of the old film. Hope you like ‘em!

Show Us Your Desktop: Round 1

We’ve all probably browsed through lists of great desktop walpapers, but I thought it would be fun to actually see some of your desktops for real. I’ve done workspace round-ups before, and now we get to peer even closer into some of our collegues’ digital environments. Every artist is different, and as you can tell below….so are their desktops. I asked people on twitter to send me screenshots of their computer desktops and below is the majority of what hit the inbox. I’ll start with mine, below (main monitor only).

Free Texture Tuesday: Smoke

I wanted to do some sort of roundabout dedication to our new incoming President with this week’s textures, but I didn’t want to do something too boring. It’s no secret Barack Obama is a smoker considering how widely publicized it’s been. He will join only three other presidents who were smokers: Warren Harding, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Lyndon Baines Johnson. Here’s to you, Mr. President!

Photoshop: Force Carbon Copy Dimensions and DPI Upon New Document (Video)

This one was hard to title, but it’s just a quick workflow tip to save you time. Instead of having to type in demensions and DPI every time you create a new document, you can use a series of keyboard shortcuts to force Photoshop to make a carbon copy of the current document settings. Have a watch :)
