This is an incredible free icon set I recently came across and I wanted to make sure no one misses it. While I’m at it, I’d like to apologize for the lack of activity lately. I’m slaving over a complete re-design of BittBox at the moment and I’m neck deep in code and bug fixes, not to mention icon surfing. (Oh, and when BBv4 launches, you can kiss that big Google ad at the top of each post goodbye :) Anyway, for the time being, head on over to the Function site for a killer free icon set. The set includes 128 48 x 48px icons, yummy!

This might be a tip that is more useful for bloggers or tech writers than designers, but I’ve found myself in this situation plenty of times. I need an application icon to use as an image for one reason or another, I can’t find a decent one online, and all of the crappy conversion shareware software is just wasting my time. I came across a very neat trick over at Macosxhints that was super simple and no 3rd party software is required. If you have OS X you can use the Terminal App (Applications > Utilities) to convert any ICNS file to an image format that can be used in whatever Photoshop.

We all love textures, right? I was recently emailed by a BittBox reader about a new texture site, LostAndTaken.com. It’s a blog style site and definitely worth bookmarking. All of the textures I downloaded for testing were a massive 3072 x 2048px, so I’m guessing the author has a pretty darn kick-ass camera. Oh yeah, and all of the textures are copyright-free and can be used for personal as well as commercial purposes.
